VisionHealth care plays an important role in the national economy. The Health Care Science Institute (HCI) conducts researches and investigations as follows:
Through above researches and investigations, HCI works toward defining the desirable supply of health care within the limitations of the national economy as well as the role of the pharmaceutical industry, and tries to promote inter-disciplinary studies in health care. HCI’s final goal is to contribute to further upgrading the standard of health care and social welfare in Japan, and for this purpose, HCI is approved as a non-profit organization by the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare. When trying to find an ideal health care system for the next decade or for the foreseeable future, consideration from a narrow perspective, e.g., “science and technology,” is not enough. It is necessary to take an inter-disciplinary approach, which includes not only medicine but all related sciences, e.g., economics, law, sociology, psychology and ethics, into consideration. These fields are expected to be deeply involved in a diversified health care system in the future. From this standpoint, HCI was established to become a pioneer creating an affluent future society. The institute was named the Health Care Science Institute to represent its pioneer position from the standpoint of contributing to the future development of health care, to declare its purpose of establishment, and with hopes for obtaining long-lasting support from citizens. HCI was established on October 1, 1990, with the qualifying authority received from the Health Policy Bureau, Ministry of Health and Welfare. |
